BANDUNG, KOMPAS.com - Jumlah lulusan perguruan tinggi bidang Teknologi Informasi (TI) di Indonesia sekitar 11.000 per tahun. Angka itu masih jauh dari mencukupi untuk memenuhi kebutuhan tenaga kerja bidang tersebut, sekitar 40.000 orang per tahun.
Rektor Institut Teknologi Telkom Husni Amani di Bandung, Senin (22/6), mengatakan, rasio yang tidak sebanding antara lulusan dengan kebutuhan menyebabkan pembajakan pegawai TI marak. Sementara itu, kebutuhan lainnya masih dipenuhi oleh tenaga kerja asing.
"Kondisi itu sangat disayangkan, karena seharusnya dapat diisi oleh tenaga kerja lokal," kata Husni.
Saat ini, Institut Teknologi Telkom dapat menghasilkan sekitar 1.000 lulusan TI per tahun. Sebagai upaya menekan kekurangan tenaga kerja TI , jumlah itu akan dinaikkan menjadi 1.700 orang mulai tahun 2011.
Institut Teknologi Telkom memiliki 14 program studi. Program studi elektro, industri, komputer, teknik telekomunikasi, serta informatika merupakan program studi yang paling diminati. Dan upaya untuk menjembatani antara dunia usaha dengan kampus dilakukan oleh pihak universitas dengan mendirikan Carrier Development Center.
